Biological knowledge addresses the issues perennial issues of hunger, emerging diseases, poverty conservation, environment and climate change amongst others, with a view to providing appropriate solutions to problems. The mission of the Department of Biological Sciences is to produce top – notch candidates competent to work in diverse field like biological research, biomedical research, livestock research, crop and forestry research, and in industry. The department currently capitalizes in offering an eight semester (4 years) Bachelor of Science (Biology Degree). Students undertake appropriately selected courses in biological sciences, chemistry and mathematics in the first and second year of study. In the third and fourth years they study courses that lead to specialized areas of Biology like entomology and parasitology, conservation biology, various ecologies and microbiology.

The first batch of students are in their fourth year of study.
The Department also offers service units to other Programs in the University e.g. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Extension and Education, Bachelor of Education (Science), Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology, and Diploma in Education. And Diploma in Agriculture Extension and Education.
